Dr. Duncan Finlay is Senior Advisor for the Kinzie Consortium. Dr. Finlay is past President and CEO of the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System. Sarasota Memorial is Sarasota’s second largest employer as well as the second largest not-for-profit hospital in Florida. As its Chief Executive, Dr. Finlay had responsibility for more than 2900 employees. During his tenure SMHCS was recognized for outstanding customer service and employee satisfaction winning the Press Ganey Award for patient satisfaction and achieving the highest employee satisfaction rating in the nation for hospitals over 500 beds by the Jackson Company. The system was awarded Magnet status for nursing -- the 69th hospital in the world and the Florida Governor’s Sterling Award for Organizational Excellence. In 2004, US News and World Report ranked Sarasota Memorial as a top 50 hospital in 7 of the 17 categories they measure while competing with the nation’s most prestigious academic institutions.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Florida. His internship, residency and fellowship certifications were received at Grady Memorial Hospital/Emory University, Atlanta, GA. He was in the private practice of pulmonary medicine for 24 years, also specializing in sleep disorders. He started Sarasota Memorial’s Sleep Disorders Center and was a cofounder and first president of the Florida Sleep Medicine Society. Dr. Finlay served as the Chief Medical Officer of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System for 3 ½ years. He was elected President and Chief Executive Officer in 2000.
